Dashboard sidebar (left) menu items blocked, css issues

Unread postby superadmin » 24 Jun 2017, 00:02

1. Site URL: https://propertypak.com
2. CMS name: WordPress 4.8
3. URL of page with the comments/registration/feedback form: Not applicable.

When CleanTalk is activated, all users below the level of site administrator have their dashboard sidebar (left) menu items blocked. The items are not visible. Site admins can see the menu items, but the custom css for the dashboard page is blocked. Multi-Site admins can see the menu items and the custom css is NOT blocked.

When CleanTalk is deactivated, all logged in users can see the dashboard sidebar (left) customized-menu items according to their user-privilege level. Also, site admins can see the menu items and the custom css is no longer blocked.

I need to be able to turn off CleanTalk interfering with
1) the user dashboard menu (not just the toolbar but the menu) and
2) the dashboard css.

Thank you.

It might help to know that the sidebar (left) menu items/links and the css are unaffected by CleanTalk on user Profile pages regardless of user-privilege level.

Hello,

We don't observe such behavior. Please, give us some information:
- What plugin are we talking about? Antispam (https://wordpress.org/plugins/cleantalk-spam-protect/) or Security (https://wordpress.org/plugins/security-malware-firewall/)?
- Are you running Wordpress multi-site?
- Please, send us a screenshot with the problem.

Or you could just create a user for us (with admin rights) so we could see the problem ourselves. We guarantee Integrity and confidentiality of the website. If you perform this, send an access details in private message.

Please, contact us.

Hello Roman,

I reversed my forensics by deactivating all plugins except CleanTalk. The admin menu showed at the subscriber level but only in its default form and not as customized via my other plugins. I reactivated plugins one at a time until the menu stopped showing. It stopped showing when I reactivated AG Custom Admin (v5.7.3) https://wordpress.org/plugins/ag-custom-admin/.

If you will kindly install that plugin and test it, I would appreciate it.

You will find the link to its settings under "Tools" in WordPress and not under "Settings."

Go to the "Admin Menu" on the plugin's settings page. Scroll down to "Add New Menu Items." Create a new menu item. Go to the bottom of the page and "Save Settings."

I believe with Antispam by CleanTalk activated, the new menu item will not show up for you. If it does show for you, then I'm not sure where to point you.

Just to be clear, I have other plugins set to disallow all admin menu items for subscribers other than those created via AG Custom Admin, so you may still see other menu items other than the one you created with AG Custom Admin.

If you can't see the new AG Custom Admin item with CleanTalk activated but can get it to show after changing CleanTalk's code without otherwise breaking CleanTalk, then I'd certainly be willing to beta test your patch before you release it.

The css issues are very secondary to me, as customers are never registered above the subscriber level and CleanTalk doesn't seem to be interfering with css at the subscriber level in admin.

To answer your other question, it is multisite. However, none of the plugins I'm using to tweak menus or css are network activated.

Thank you.

I'm reopening this thread with new information.

WordPress is at 4.8.3, multi-site.

If you with re-read the thread, this new info will make more immediate sense.

In https://community.cleantalk.org/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=13858#p18510, I stated the following:
The css issues are very secondary to me, as customers are never registered above the subscriber level and CleanTalk doesn't seem to be interfering with css at the subscriber level in admin.

While fixing a different problem, I stumbled upon the following:
CleanTalk is throwing a javascript error:
Uncaught ReferenceError: google is not defined
source:https://[domain]/wp-content/plugins/cleantalk-spam-protect/assets/js/cleantalk-dashboard-widget.js?ver=5.80
line:32

I left CleanTalk enabled but temporarily changed the name of cleantalk-dashboard-widget.js. Then I checked /wp-admin/ and /wp-admin/index.php for both a single-site admin and a multi-site network admin. All css worked fine for all combinations of users and pages/URLs.

I tried to figure out the issue, but it was taking more time than I can give it.

Earlier in this thread, I mentioned how to create a menu item (which was my main concern at the time and which you did and also fixed). However, we didn't go through you creating any css changes via the AG Custom Admin Settings plugin.

/wp-admin/tools.php?page=ag-custom-admin%2Fplugin.php#ag-colorizer-settings is where you could make a few color changes. Then check the dashboard (logged in as an admin) against other admin pages. If that results in the same issue I'm still having, your color changes should not work on the main dashboard page but should work everywhere else.

Deactivating Anti-Spam by CleanTalk should then allow the color changes to work on the dashboard, and enabling Anti-Spam by CleanTalk should break it again while also throwing the "Uncaught ReferenceError: google is not defined" error.

By the way, if you leave AG Custom Admin enable, the error is caught by AG Custom Admin. With AG Custom Admin disabled, the error is still caught.

I hope I've written this well enough. If not, I'll try to answer any questions to the best of my ability.

Thanks.
