I've been having a serious problem with spam bot subscriptions to my newsletter these past few months. These are real addresses but not being entered by the real people behind the addresses. (I believe they call it "subscription bombing"). I use a double optin but the confirmation email itself is getting marked as spam which causes serious problems of very high spam complaints for my list. Anyhow, I was very excited to find your service which promises to solve the problem all for a very reasonable price! I'm currently on the free trial. However, I've run into a bit of a problem...
A bit of useful background. The website is http://publicdomainreview.org/
I run my newsletter through Sendy (https://sendy.co/), and get the newsletter signups through a custom form:
This form is in 4 places on the site:
Code: Select all
<form action="http://sendy.publicdomainreview.org/subscribe" method="POST" accept-charset="utf-8"><input style="color: #a4a4a4;" onfocus="this.value=''" type="text" name="name" id="name" value="Your name" size="20" /> <input style="color: #a4a4a4;" onfocus="this.value=''" type="text" name="email" id="email" value="Your email" size="20" /><input type="hidden" name="list" value="my_Sendy_code_for _the_list"/> <input type="submit" name="submit" id="submit" value="Subscribe"/></form>
1 in a sidebar widget — through which stop_email.example.com shows the CleanTalk spam block message
1 in a footer widget — through which stop_email.example.com shows the CleanTalk spam block message
1 directly in a page — through which stop_email.example.com shows the CleanTalk spam block message
1 in an exit popup — the email goes through....
This last one is the problem, and unfortunately this is actually the most important as it is where most of my signups come through.
The popup is powered by the plugin SumoMe (https://sumome.com/app/list-builder). I use their custom option here which is just a html field where I can put my code.
Will CleanTalk not work from a signup form which is displayed within a popup? This would be really sad if so because, as I said, it is the route through which I get most people signing up the newsletter.
I have "Protect external forms" option switched on. I haven't put the "SpamFireWall" on yet, as I wanted to see it working first without this on.
Please help! Thanks so much.
All the best,
