Cleantalk is getting disabled automatically

Unread post by MarkDHamill » 31 Jul 2018, 18:42

I install Cleantalk on phpBB forums for many of my clients. Recently I had two clients who discovered that Cleantalk had been disabled, leading to spam. I pulled the latest version off GitHub for them so they are using version 5.6.7 of the extension.

I did a scan of the source code to see if there might be some bug or new feature that does this. Cleantalk should silently fail if a subscription expires and that wasn't the case here. They say they did not disable Cleantalk.

Is this a known bug? If your subscription expires, does the plugin disable itself? How would something like this happen?

Hello,

Thank you for your request.

If the license expire then protection will be disabled as well.

To continue using our services they should renew the license:

Write back if you have questions.

Best regards.

I understand that the protection will stop when the license expires. But it appears that the phpBB Cleantalk extension is getting disabled too since it happened to two of my clients who say they did not disable it manually and their license had not lapsed. Is there anything in the phpBB extension that disables the extension due to some event?

Thank you for your feedback.

No, it should not be the case.

Protection stops working after expiring the licence on the Cloud side. Our servers check the access key and decide whether or not requests should be processed.

The module should still be working. It also tells our servers that our customer needs to receive a notification letter about it.

I hope this reply was useful.
